A favored Christmas song has a line saying that Christmas is "the most wonderful time of the year". Although presenting and receiving Christmas gifts is something extremely awaited as well as remembered at Christmas time, there are additional activities that make Christmas at least the same memorable and fantastic.

One such an activity is for example decorating the Christmas tree. In most cases, the Christmas tree is located at a central location in the house and it is the most obvious Christmas decoration. Different to other countries, American homes don't present the Nativity scene, which is more expected to be located at the churches.

Right after the Christmas season begins, on Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, families start to have a look for their Christmas tree. Already this might become memorable, especially when children come with parents to Christmas tree farm or other places to select a Christmas tree.

After the decision for a real or an artificial Christmas tree, it gets exciting for the whole familiy to be a part in decorating the Christmas tree. Christmas decorations come in a lot of shapes and colors, but the most special memory for children will be when crafting a special Christmas ornament together with parents. Although other decorations might change from year to year, but placing these particular ornaments on the Christmas tree will be something special each year.

Baking cookies is another activity that will create special memories. Besides the popular gingerbread cookies, making special holiday-shaped cookies with special cookie cutters is done in a lot of houses. Depending on the age of children, they might assist in the baking activity with measuring or mixing some ingredients. The young ones might be able to decorate the cookies with icing after they are finished. This is not just being fun for the children, but also educational, as parents might teach fractions and mathematical elements while measuring and puzzling out equal measures.

One more food related activity which creates memories as well, is making fruit baskets or goody baskets. Those are filled with candies, baked items or other goodies for beloveds, special friends or neighbors. These baskets make a special Christmas gift as well. As they are homemade it makes them oftentimes much more valued than any bought Christmas present.

As Christmas is the season of good cheer and goodwill, it is important to get in contact with family, beloved ones as well as friends. Very often we don't find the time during the year, to be in regular contact with them, especially if they are living far away.

Because of this, it is also very common to send Christmas greeting cards during the holidays to the beloved ones. Besides the nice memories of receiving the card, there might be a letter included, telling about any important event with members of the family. This makes the Christmas greeting card even more memorable.

And finally there is the most awaited activity of Christmas, to find out what Santa brought on Christmas Eve. Although adults are looking forward to see what Christmas gifts Santa brought for them, children get the most pleasure from receiving Christmas presents. To find the before carefully hidden Christmas presents under the Christmas tree on Christmas morning is one of the most fantastic ways to create unforgettable memories for children at Christmas.
